About the Authors: Richard McDermott is a professor of accountancy and healthcare administration at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He has a masters degree in healthcare administration from the University of Colorado and a Ph.D. in accounting from Oklahoma State University. Prior to entering academics he spent seven years as a hospital administrator; five years as the assistant administrator of the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah, and two years as the administrator of the Sevier Valley Hospital in Richfield, Utah. He is a former president of the Utah Health Systems Agency, and a former vice-president of the Eyring Research Institute. Dr. McDermott served as the chairman of the board of trustees of the Ogden Regional Medical Center. He consults and writes extensively on healthcare finance topics.

Kevin D. Stocks is the Director of Accounting and Information Systems at Brigham Young University. He has a Ph.D. in accounting from Oklahoma State University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Active professionally, he has recently served as Vice Presidents Education of the American Accounting Association and a member of the Pre-Certification Education Executive Committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has also served as president of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy and as president of the Teaching & Curriculum section of the American Accounting Association.
